Frequently Asked questions

And other things you might like to know.

How to care for your plant dyed clothing.

The short and for the best care, wash in cold water with a PH neutral soap, dry out of the sun, either hang or machine.

The long - Some plant dyes are PH sensitive but we try to stay away from dyes that aren’t absolute warriors when it comes to sticking around on your garments. The sun is going to be the number one culprit when it comes to color fade, regardless if the clothing is plant dyed or uses synthetic dyes. So do not line dry your garments in the sun or store them in the sun.

Who is making my clothes?

We are! Everything is made right here in our studio in Northwest CT. We get bolts of undyed and unbleached organic fabrics. We draft the patterns, cut the fabric, sew the garments, scour the garments (dye speak for removing all the dirt and oils from producing the fabric), mordant the garments (dye speak for preparing the fabric to accept and retain the dyes), dye the garments, take photos of them, post them to the website, and lastly pack them up and ship them to you. <3

What kind of fabrics do you use?

All of our fabrics are made from plants. From Organic Cotton to Hemp. Bamboo, Tencel, and our personal favorite Modal. Tencel and Modal are newer to the scene for more sustainable fabrics, and made from Beech and Eucalyptus Trees. What we love about them is that they use a “closed water system” in production. One of the biggest factors when considering sustainability in the world of fashion or any production process is water. When using a closed water system it means the water can be reused over and over again in the process of turning the tree into a spin-able fiber.

What is made to order?

Another side to running a more sustainable company is not creating excess waste. (We’re SMDH at the amount of clothing produced and trashed every year) Made to order means that each piece is made specifically to you and for you upon the time your order is placed. And if you don’t love them, you can absolutely send them back and we will add them to our ready to ship collection. But be sure to check our policies page for full details.

Why is organic plant dyed clothing important?

Fashion is the number one polluter on the planet. And the layers as to why sometimes feel endless. From fast fashion, designed specifically not to last. To the copious amounts of water it takes to make one non organic cotton T-shirt (650 gallons). To the dye run off poisoning our water ways. Synthetic dyes are petrol (oil/plastic) based, and used dyes have to go somewhere.

A big part of our mission is to minimize this impact by creating garments that come from the earth, using fabrics that specifically have a much lower water usage. Use dye plants, which consists of literally steeping ground leaves, flowers, barks, and roots in pots with your garments. And designing pieces that are versatile throughout the seasons and will last a very long time.

How do the releases work?

The releases happen monthly (most of the time, however we are humans doing our best.). We send an email out to our mailing list subscribers the day of letting them know. As well as post to instagram the week before posting a preview of the collection to stories. They are always at 7pm(est). Each piece is one of a kind. The releases is where you will find unique color ways as well as the printed garments.
